The Nanda Devi sanctuary, situated in the Garhwal Himalaya, is surrounded by 70 white, colossal peaks, many named and unnamed, the most famous being Nanda Devi. The sanctuary is shaped in the form of a cup, with lush green meadows and gushing, milky white waterfalls and herbs of the blue mountain goat (Bharal). This area has attracted many prominent international mountaineers. Sir Edmund Hillary, in his autobiography, has mentioned the raggedness of this sanctuary. The Nanda Devi sanctuary is God gifted wilderness - India's training ground for Adventure. But you will forget the exhaustion on seeing the fabulous views of those famous peaks glistening with snow: Runti, Nanda Devi, Nanda- Ghunti and Bethartoli, across the river Rishi Ganga. The Nanda Devi comes ever closer as you approach tilchuni slate quarry it is a delightful birch clearing, the last on the Rishi gorge, but it means climbing down from the Bhujgara trail. Porter prefers to camp at Dibrugheta. There are three other routes in the sanctuary: Dunagiri and Changbang base (the ultimate mountain), Trisul base (with new route into the inner south sanctuary discovered in 1979), and Nanda Devi north base (Rishi Tal above the Changbang Glacier).

This trek is not so difficult, not so easy. Taral Khal (4596m) is the highest pass of this trek.
